Storm Reid is sure to become a household name after the release of Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time. The 14-year-old rising star is flexing her acting chops alongside Oprah Winfrey (Mrs. Which), Reese Witherspoon (Mrs. Whatsit), and Mindy Kaling (Mrs. Who) in the Ava DuVernay-directed film, which hit theaters on March 9. Here are six quick facts about the Atlanta native that will turn you into a fan before then.

  1. You’ve probably seen her on screen before. In 2013, Storm played Emily in the Oscar-nominated film 12 Years a Slave alongside Lupita Nyong’o. She also made guest appearances on shows like NCIS: Los Angeles and Chicago P.D.
  2. She’s an incredible dancer. Storm recently shared a behind-the-scenes video of herself dancing to Rihanna and N.E.R.D’s « Lemon » song on Instagram, and let’s just say, we’d love to break it down with her at a party!
  3. She and Cookie Monster share a common interest. That’s right, Storm loves cookies! The actress revealed her love for the crunchy snack during an interview with O magazine, saying, « I’m a cookie girl. They were in my trailer, at the catering table — everywhere! The best advice she ever received came from Oprah herself. Storm previously admitted that she was worried about her height because she was getting too tall for her age, but Oprah told her, « Don’t waste energy on things you can’t change. » Oprah’s words of wisdom have stuck with her ever since.

Watching Matilda « over and over » again inspired her to become an actress.During an interview with Collider, Storm shared that Matilda is one of her favorite movies. « It’s a silly story, but when you really look at it, it’s heartwarming and a really special story. You see this little girl that is so smart and who was dedicated. It inspired me, and it inspires other girls, too. »
  3. She wants to empower other black girls with her breakout role in A Wrinkle in Time. « It’s just surreal because I get to empower other little African-American girls around the world and say that you can be a superhero and you rock and you can conquer the world and you are beautiful just the way you are and your flaws are nothing and you’re awesome, » Storm told Entertainment Weekly.
