Africa Communications Week : Telling Authentic and Balanced South African Narrative

Johannesburg – Africa Communications Week kicks off the first time in South Africa under the theme: Telling an authentic and balanced South African narrative in Johannesburg on 22 May and Cape Town on 25 May.
 
The Minister of Communications will address the ACW attendees on the importance of the role they play in shaping the South African narrative and encourage better collaboration between her department and its institutions.

The South African edition of Africa Communications Week is part of a global series of more than 3000+ attendees in 30 events happening in 20 countries around Africa and beyond in learning and reflecting their role in the development of the African narrative.
 
The art of storytelling is at the heart of what Communications and Public Relations professionals do. It is important that we do not underestimate the influence of the industry on shaping discourse in South Africa. Through the platform of ACW, the aim is to move beyond the vaguely-defined need for change’ to focus on practical, concrete, realistic and measurable steps to effect that change.

 

Minister of Communications to address SA edition of Africa Communications Week
At both events, the programme also includes a lecture the process of mean making through storytelling and its ethical implications under the title, “Cultural representation and the impact of the current narratives” presented by Miguel A. Barreiro- Laredo, Associate Professor at the IE School of Human Sciences and Technology, Spain. The IE School of Human Sciences is the official learning partner of Africa Communications Week Through the lecture and discussions that will follow, delegates will reflect on current narrative, cultural representation and its impact in socio-economic development by drawing from successful campaigns in South America and other emerging markets.
 
“Our main aim for this inaugural edition of Africa Communications Week is a robust discussion on what is working, what isn’t working when it comes to shaping the South African narrative and the opportunities that exist in working together better for the greater good of the country”, says Nelisa Ngqulana, MD of PR Trends ZA, the host of the South African edition of Africa Communications Week.
 
More than 100 PR and communications professional working in various sectors are expected.
