TROPICS MAGAZINE #64 | Rakesh Wahi to grace English Cover 

Mr. Rakesh Wahi is a visionary entrepreneur who has been involved with early-stage investments in emerging markets for the last 29 years. He is a well-respected member of the investment community and has distinguished himself in the field of IT, telecoms, media, technology and education investments in the CIS, Middle East & North Africa, South & South East Asia and Sub Sahara Africa.

Mr. Wahi is Chairman of CMA Investment Holdings that has representation through its portfolio companies in over 22 countries. Mr. Wahi is the Founder of the ABN Group that includes CNBC Africa, Forbes Africa, ABN Productions, ABN Training Institute, ABN Pictures, ABN Digital and ABN Education Trust. He is also the co-founder of Trans National Academic Group, Murdoch University Dubai, Curtin University Dubai, Lancaster University Ghana, TAG Middle East and Tech One Global. His core focus is on long term corporate and leadership development through building strong management teams.

Mr. Wahi has a vision to develop capacity across the African continent by establishing centres of excellence. This initiative will see the establishment of a large number of tertiary educational institutions with a focus on STEM’s, health sciences, energy and engineering. Mr. Wahi is a sought after speaker at educational institutions on leadership and entrepreneurship.

Prior to moving to the UAE in 1988/89, Mr. Wahi served with the Corps of Engineers in the Indian Army for about 9 years; and for distinguished services to the country in peacetime, was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (« VSM ») by the President of India in 1985. Mr. Wahi was also part of India’s scientific expedition to the Antarctica where he established India’s second base in 1987/88.

TROPICS MAGAZINE #64 | Dina Mendes en Couverture Francophone

Ce mois, TROPICS MAGAZINE a eu l’honneur de recevoir la co-fondatrice et Directrice Générale de l’agence HD Consulting Paris, une agence de voyage spécialisée dans le tourisme haut de gamme vers l’Afrique, la France et les pays européens. Depuis plusieurs années, cette agence accueille de plus en plus de touristes africains fortunés, leur organise des séjours sur mesure et répond à leurs exigences les plus folles.

Acteur majeur du secteur touristique français, le groupe HD Consulting Paris créé à l’initiative de Dina MENDES originaire du Cap Vert et de Hamza DIALLO originaire du Sénégal déploie son expertise dans les domaines de la conciergerie et du luxe, mais s’illustre également pour l’importance considérable qu’il accorde à l’innovation. Une volonté de créer, de bouleverser et d’avancer, qui s’applique aussi bien à la relation client qu’au digital, au tourisme ou encore au développement durable, l’un des enjeux essentiels du groupe qui monte.

TROPICS MAGAZINE #65 | Phyllis Malope to grace English Cover

Mrs. Phyllis MALOPE is one of the Most Influential Leaders honoured this year throughout the 2nd annual TROPICS BUSINESS SUMMIT celebrated last year in Johannesburg, South Africa. « I am Educator by profession; absorbed myself in the struggle to equality for all from an early age; taking up a role as an Educator in Soweto at the height of the Apartheid era of uprisings and protests against Afrikaans as a medium of instruction in South Africa. Mandisa Phyllis, married to the Mondlane family is a compassionate 64 year old mother and grandmother blessed with three children and fostering two children as my own. »

In 1985 for nearly a decade, Mrs. Phyllis Malope lectured at Soweto College of Education and produced several notable South African Cabinet Ministers, Professional Boxers, Artists and Policy-makers. Her academic expedition contains: A Bachelor of Arts, Post Graduate Diploma in Education acquired at University of South Africa; Bachelor of Education acquired at the University of the Witwatersrand & Masters in Education from the University of Rand Afrikaans Universiteit. For me, learning and quest to knowledge has been life-long and has enhanced her profile by some professional courses from: Leeds University in the U.K. & Uppsala University in Germany; studying Community Development, Monitoring & Evaluation at the University of Pretoria, and an added course in Social Entrepreneurship from the University of Stellenbosch.

« All my credentials did not seem to give a meaningful and purposeful place in the corporate sector, thus for a decade, I have been at the helm of Philani Community Development Centre, a multi-pronged, integrated community development model; an award winning community development intervention that focuses on Early Childhood Development, Co-operative Incubation Hub, HIV/Aids Programme, HCT & Social Mobilisation Health Programme and Skills Development, and currently initiated the Young Women Skills Revolution Programme ensued from 2018; youth and women being the core focus due to their state of vulnerability in the townships. »

In totally with her directorship at Philani Community Development Centre, Phyllis holds several leadership roles in other recognized offices, these include; my being President of South African Congress of Non-Profit Organisations (SACONO), Chairperson of the South African Chapter at the Asia African Network of Caregivers and Children (AnoCC), Advisor to the National Development Agency – ECD Advisory Board and Chairperson of the West Rand NPO Coalition. Mrs. Phyllis Malope formed part of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women – UNCSW60 and UNCSW62, a delegation that represented South Africa under the auspice of the Ministry of Women.

TROPICS MAGAZINE #65 | Roland Chrisbel en Couverture Francophone

Pour le Président Fondateur du Groupe O’dellya Consulting, grâce à sa nouvelle dynamique entrepreneuriale, l’Afrique va faire la différence. Attendu à Johannesburg lors de la 2e édition du TROPICS BUSINESS SUMMIT, Roland Chrisbel était l’un des intervenants principaux qui viendront prêcher leur vision pour faire du numérique un levier de l’économie, dans son pays, la République du Congo. Comment ? En formant des compétences. Le e-banking, la télémédecine, l’agri-business, la révolution numérique ‘Made-in-Africa’ est en pointe dans les domaines du numérique, et ces secteurs sont désormais réputés pourvoyeurs d’emplois. 

TROPICS MAGAZINE l’a rencontré ce mois et ses propos feront certainement mouche auprès des jeunes Entrepreneurs Africains. Mais les défis pour les pays africains restent nombreux entre le déficit en termes d’infrastructures, l’absence d’approvisionnement suffisant en électricité et en eau potable…

En toile de fond, reste la question de savoir comment l’entrepreneuriat peut accompagner cette transformation digitale dans un contexte qui évolue finalement très peu.
