TROPICS HOLDINGS LTD. – The African continent and the world have a legion of people who are brave, smart and have been working incredibly hard in their respective fields to find ways to promote gender diversity in our respective countries. The theme for International Women’s Day, 8 March, is “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives”.
While the world has achieved progress towards gender equality and women’s empowerment under the Millennium Development Goals (including equal access to primary education between girls and boys), women and girls continue to suffer discrimination and violence in every part of the world.
Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
Providing women and girls with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large.
Through the #TropicsVoices movement, TROPICS MAGAZINE embarked back in 2016 on a global, multi-year editorial initiative focused on making even more Changemakers visible in the media and eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls.
The Initiative is so named as it brings focused attention to this issue, moving it into the spotlight and placing it at the centre of efforts to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Here is a list of the Global Changemakers Advancing Gender Equality across the world that you should be watching closely (and following on social media).
